What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is the practice of caring for patients remotely when the provider and patient are not physically present with each other. Telemedicine removes barriers of physical space, time, and distance while delivering important medical and other health and education services.

Wellness Pediatrics is pleased to announce TeleVisit, our new service for Telemedicine, which enables us to bring medical care to your fingertips.

TeleVisit allows parents to consult with one of our providers, share confidential medical records, conduct follow-up visits, and request prescription refills. Appointments are made convenient and accessible through our telemedicine services. Even when you are out-of-town or impossibly busy, you can accomplish TeleVisit from your home, outside of your home, or other location using a smartphone or computer and webcam. Our providers will connect with you through HIPAA-compliant video conferencing for convenient and safe consultation and access to medical records.

How do I Participate in a TeleVisit?

HOW DOES IT EXACTLY WORK?

Remember the first step is to call the office and ask to schedule a TeleVisit.

For many people today, telemedicine is a convenient and effective way to see their healthcare provider. Before beginning your TeleVisit, make sure that you:

• Have an active Patient Portal account, with username and password

• Set aside a secure and private location

To begin your TeleVisit, follow these easy steps:

  1. “Arrive early” by logging in to your Patient Portal. If you can’t access the Portal, you can also begin your appointment through the reminder link sent to your email.
  2. Click “Join TeleVisit” in your patient dashboard (or email reminder).
  3. Accept the terms of the consent form before proceeding with the Televisit appointment; requirement for all patients joining a TeleVisit appointment, either from the Healow App or from the Patient Portal.

  4. Download the Healow App from the app store and use our office code: CFBDBD
  5. Log in and set your own 4-digit code for future use.
  6. Your appointment will appear on the app.
  7. Log in at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment to check your connection.
  8. Once logged in, answer the questionnaire about your condition (this can be done any time before).
  9. The provider will join you in your visit at your scheduled time via webcam.

WHAT DO I NEED?

  • A high-speed internet connection (approximately 3Mbps)
  • A device with audio and video (Computer – Tablet – Phone)
  • Download the Healow app via the Apple Store or Google Play (Android)

• Viewing lab results online
• Managing payments with ease
• Reviewing appointments
• Access to view and print immunization records

Eligibility

To see if your insurance company covers this type of visit, please contact them and ask. Under Virginia’s parity law, private insurers are required to cover live video. Virginia Medicaid reimburses for live video. For self-pay patients, please contact our office.
